With this recipe I will guide you through a step-by-step guide to create golden, fluffy waffles topped with a luscious homemade strawberry sauce. Perfect for a cozy breakfast, a brunch treat, or a sweet dessert.

Ingredients

For the Waffles:

  1. 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  2. 1 tablespoon baking powder (for fluffy waffles)
  3. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  4. 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  5. 2 large eggs, at room temperature (for better incorporation)
  6. 1 3/4 cups (420ml) milk, at room temperature
  7. 1/3 cup (80ml) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  8. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the Strawberry Topping:

  1. 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (plus extra for garnish)
  2. 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to sweetness of berries)
  3. 1 teaspoon lemon juice (balances sweetness and enhances strawberry flavor)
  4. 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening sauce)
  5. 1 tablespoon water (to dissolve cornstarch, if using)

Optional Toppings

  1. Whipped cream
  2. Powdered Sugar
  3. Strawberries

Preparing the Strawberry Topping

  1. Hull and slice strawberries: Wash the strawberries thoroughly. Remove the green tops using a paring knife or a huller, then slice them into even pieces for a consistent sauce.
  2. Cook the strawberries: In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the berries evenly.
  3. Simmer: Place the pan over medium heat. Stir occasionally as the strawberries begin to release their juices and soften. This will take about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Optional thickening: For a thicker sauce, dissolve 1 teaspoon of cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water. Stir the mixture into the saucepan and continue cooking for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Set aside: Remove the strawberry topping from heat and let it cool slightly. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

Making the Waffle Batter

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Ensure everything is well combined and lump-free.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until fully blended.
  3. Incorporate wet and dry ingredients: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the waffles dense. Small lumps in the batter are fine.

Cooking the Waffles

  1. Preheat the waffle iron: Turn on your waffle maker and let it heat up fully. Lightly grease the plates with cooking spray or melted butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Pour the batter: Use a ladle or measuring cup to pour the batter onto the center of the waffle iron. Spread it slightly with the back of the ladle if necessary, but don't overfill; the batter will spread as it cooks.
  3. Cook to golden perfection: Close the waffle maker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions, typically 3–5 minutes. The waffles should be golden brown and slightly crispy.
  4. Keep warm: If making multiple waffles, keep the cooked waffles warm in a 200°F (93°C) oven while you finish the batch. Place them directly on the oven rack to prevent sogginess.

Serving the Waffles

From here you can go ahead and plate and serve your Sweet Strawberry Waffles!
