Hi, I'm Jule

Welcome to my world!

Progress

My progress from week one to two has been quite impressive I think. When I look at how my first page looked vs now I am very impressed with myself. I would have never thought that I would be able to do something like this on my own. The technical parts of webdesigning challenge me a lot, however I think I am getting more and more used to it but it is certainly something new for me. This second week I really enjoyed getting more creative with it. Overall I really enjoy the course because it is so practical and I think I am making great progress. This week I created an external stylesheet for my website, used DIV elements and stylesheet positioning for the lay-out, including navigation. Beyond that I had a lot of fun coming up with a recognizable, consistent style for the page, including the background color, font-sizes, font-types, text-width and so on. My progress from week 2 to 3: In this week I learned how to edit pictures, specifically crop them, how to figure out coordinates of a picture and design an image map.I might have learned more in quantity in other weeks but this is certainly a harder skill that I am happy to have mastered this week. I learned how to crop a picture to remove unnecessary background details and how to adjust sizes and pixels, as well as compressing the picture without a visible loss of quality. I also created a thumbnail and most importantly I learned how to turn a simple image into an image map by adding coordinates to it. These I think are really valuable skills for later on. My progress from week 3 to 4: In this week we learned all about SEO - which I think is very important for any website, therefore I created a website for stracciatella ice cream and tried to include the term "stracciatella ice cream dish" as often as I could. This was a very fun and valuable assignment. It was also fun creating a website about something else than just myself. My progress from week 4 to 5: This week was really crucial, I made sure that all of my designs had the same layout and double checked and adjusted a bunch of things. My page already had the same layout, however putting a wrapped div around them made everything appear much more coordinated. Additionally, before I was struggling with horizontal scrolling which thankfully the wrapper helped with. I also made sure my navigation was identical on every page, whereas before I had just deleted the active page item from the navigation, now the navigation displayed everything, including a hover and showing the active item. Beyond that I also checked text and more small details, this was a crucial assignment in the development of my webpage, I am now at a point where I am really satisfied with it. In the end, I needed to come up to this and fix some more things, such as properly adding a container around everything and making sure everything looks really uniform, but I think I learned my lesson from this, in terms of paying attention to detail. Week 5 to 6: In this week I needed to look after my last assignment for a bit again but once I fixed that I started reviewing someone else's page which I found very helpful in the process of also evaluating my own page. It was a lot of fun and I also realised that I have learned a lot in this course.
