I study ELC (European Languages and Cultures) at the RUG (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). I am currently at 3rd year student and doing my minor in Media studies and Mythology. Below you will find some information about these three different studies.
European Languages and Cultures
ELC is a study that combines the languages, cultures and politcs of Europe. Every student can choose one focus language, which they will learn and use during the bachelor. You can choose between 8 different languages:
- Dutch
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Spanish
- Russian
- Swedish
Next to focusing on a language, you also specialise in one of the three profiles within in the programme from the 2nd year on. The options are: Language & Society, Culture & Literature and Politcs & Society. Here I have chosen Language & Society, also known as Linguistics, because I am very interested in analysing our spoken langauge and the position that language hold in our society. Media Studies
This semester I am taking 4 media studies courses, 3 in my minor space and 1, web design, as an extra course. The media studies minor teaches students what role media play in informing and connecting people to each other within our society and more.

Mirror of Myth
The Mirror of Myth is a university minor offered by the RUG to students of every faculty. The minor is only 15 ECTS and is only taught in the semester 1B. In this minor, you get to know more about the ancient greek mythology, their impact and functions in the western society.
I have chosen to follow this minor because of my interest in the greek mythology and the ancient greek language.
