My studies

Before studying in Groningen, I went to high school in Leeuwarden. I went to "Het Stedelijk Gymnasium Leeuwarden". As you can tell from the name, this school is a "Gymnasium", a type of high school in the Netherlands that offers classical languages such as Latin and Greek. During high school, my favorite subjects were geography and philosophy.

After having graduated from high school in 2019, I went to Groningen to study Human Geography & Regional Planning. I thought this study would suit me, since I was interested in social geography. However, after a few months of studying I realized the programme did not suit me and I did not really enjoy studying it. I decided to quit and I started looking for studies that would suit me. After going to a few more open days and having talked to some students, I decided I wanted to study Communication and Information Studies (CIS). Even though I did not have a super clear vision of what this programme exactly entailed, I thought it was a good choice for me since it is a very broad, diverse programme (focussed on communication, which also interested me). This would give me a chance to find out what I really thought was interesting, since I always kind of struggled with knowing what I really wanted to do in the future.

Right now, I am in the second year of the CIS programme. I am really happy I chose this programme since I like most of the courses and my study progress is going well. I really like the courses that contain elements of psychology, sociology and marketing. In a few months, I have to choose a minor and I am going to try to apply for psychology.
