Web usability review

I will review the website of Toon. The website has effective visual hierarchy: it is clear that there is a navigation menu that leads to all the different pages linked to the homepage. I think it would have been nicer if it had been a horizontal navigation bar. The navigation bar does lead to all the different pages, so everything is well connected.

The most important term of each page is displayed as the most prominent one on that corresponding page. It is bigger and is at the top of the page. Conventions are not really used. It is not very clear what is clickable, as no hovers have been used. The color does change to red when you click on it. And it is obvious that you can click on the navigation bar, because they are underlined. But this is done without editing, which is automatically added when you create a link.

I think the colors and font choice do cause some design noise. The font is a serif font which makes the text quite difficult to read, and not easy to scan. The serif font can be seen as original because you do not see it that often but I think it should be used in a different way. And all the dark colors make it difficult to read too. It's all gray on gray on gray.

I don't see any happy talk, it is immediately clear what it is about. There is no irrelevant content on the website. The navigation bar is clearly located in the center. It's consistent too, the navigation bar is in a fixed place. All the different links inside the navigation bar stay at the same place. It also has a link to the homepage, but as there are no hovers it is not clear which page you are on.

The homepage does not clearly indicate what this site is about. The homepage is more a page about who he is, but not what the website has to offer, and not what you can do at this site. For example, there could have been some information about what you can all find and do at the website.

The usability improvements that I would suggest are that I would use some different colors, maybe some white div blocks with black text in it and than with a gray background. And I would use another font to make the text easy to scan and readable. I would only make the headlines in a font that is more unusual. Furthermore, the site worked out well, it looks different than other websites so that can be seen as a good thing.
