Web Usability Review for Mateo's Website

Mateo's Website

1. Is the most important term of each page also displayed as the most prominent one?

Yes, as the most important term of each page is presented in bold font as well as having a larger format which differs from the rest of the text. For example, on the main page "Welcome to My Personal Website" is not only bold and large, it is also presented in a different color that pops on a different background.

2. Is it obvious what is clickable?

Clickable elements are mostly easy to recognize on the website as the navigation menu at the top of the page indicates the ability to select the desired section. However the horizontal bar could be better designed. For example, creating some sort of an indication mark on the menu that provides the viewer with the understanding of the page they are currently on. The picture on the homepage however is perfectly designed as the blue edges replicate a button like feeling.

3. To what extent is there distraction or design noise?

The website is predominantly minimalistic which creates little to no description and design noise. The chosen color schemes of light grayish background with white containers and black outlinings create a neutral environment. This feature keeps the focus on the content of the website without distracting the viewer with unnecessary elements. This consistency however has one side effect which is the lack of identification of the important items such as headings and pictures. Adding more color and size variety would help the viewer to identify their position on the website.

4. Are the texts easy to scan?

The text on the website is presented in short simple words and overall small pieces of text, which definitely makes it easy to scan through. The fact that the text is left aligned and the font size is reasonable ensures that the information on the website is presented in a consistent way.

5. Do you see 'happy talk'?

There is almost no happy talk on this website as the focus is laid on it being concise. This provides the website with a more put together appearance which indicates that this website serves a certain purpose instead of it just being entertaining.

6. Is the navigation user-friendly?

The navigation is definitely simple however it can be more user-friendly. The horizontal menu stays the same on every page of the website which is a good thing. On the other hand it definitely lacks the indication that ensures the viewer's understanding of their location on the website.

7. Is it at a prominent location?

The navigation is definitely at a prominent location as it is at the top of the screen and remains there on every single page of the website.

8. Is it consistent?

The navigation menu is definitely consistent as its style and function doesn't change throughout the entire website.

9. Does it include a link to the homepage?

Yes, the home button on the navigation menu acts as a link to the homepage allowing users to go back anytime.

10. Is there a 'you are here' indication?

No, the navigation menu lacks this indication as it doesn't change no matter what page the viewer is on. This becomes a problem as the viewer might get confused as to which page they are currently on.

11. Does the homepage clearly indicate what this site is about?

The homepage does indicate what the site is about but not whose site it is as it lacks the name and function of the creator. The information on the home page is 100% anonymous as the text doesn't mention any specific details and the picture is AI generated.

12. What other usability improvements can you suggest?
